There is a cheaper way. Find a surplus electronics/electrical
store which sales used electronic junk. I found my 30A variac
(actually found 3 of them + a few 15 amps). I paid $40 for my
first 30 amp and a little less for my second. The 15 amp variacs
were about $10. These places are hard to find, but they are out
there. ALL variacs were in good working condition, brushes and
all.
