glass cutting

Safety glass is tempered so that instead of breaking into large sharp 
pieces that are likely to cut someone, it shatters into very small 
pieces.  Unfortunately, tempered glass cannot be cut-- it shatters. 
Large temperature changes likewise will cause it to shatter.  Last 
winter, I tried to move a 3' X 6' sheet from the back porch (cold) 
through the kitchen (hot) to the garage.  Two steps into the room, I was 
suddenly standing ankle deep in glass bits!
