I have done it all and found good polythermalize wire tight wound on a pvc
form just doesn't need any coating if the builder knows his stuff. I still
have a ton of old resonators around the lab which range from glopped up
messes (pre- 1990) with $40.00 worth of sealants on the them to those with a
light single coating of polyurethane on them (after 1994).
It is pretty much of a preference and time related thing as opposed to some
logical reasoned thing.
