Subject:  copper clean-up?

Hi all,
I recently came into a few sheets of copper that I want to use for various
coil parts...the problem is that the sheeting is badly tarnished with a
rather heavy green patina in a few places.
Is there a really good way to clean this sheeting up without losing a lot
of metal?
