Richard,
I've got a pair of Seimens Triodes that are rated at 75kV -at- 2A -at- 50kHz.
An engineer at Seimens says that they'll run at twice the frequency and half
voltage with no problem.
These, of course, would make a nice tube coil (i.e. CW grid excitation via a
primary feedback coil) but you are talking about using a device as a switch
(i.e. short pulse grid excitation).
What's the goal in dumping the RSG? A big tube coil or a solid state switch
that has similar specs as a RSG? The latter, I think we all agree, is not
yet
available at the Tesla coiler's budget.
But what about a tube coil in the 3 to 10kW range? I've got all the parts
for a
3kVA TC (12.75" dia. secondary -at- 108kHz, .05uf CP cap, pancake primary,
100:1 potential transformer, 45A & 15A variacs, etc....). And I picked up
these
tubes at the TRW hamfest for less than the $100 price point! (tongue also in
cheek).
Jeff
