Hi Gary, All,
McMaster Carr buys them from Arthur Harris Co.
in Chicago Illinois (1-312-666-6832) and then marks up
the price. I buy the 4" diameter stainless steel ball
with 3/8-16 internal spuds for the Marx generators
in the lightning laboratory. They were $18 apiece
in january of 1996. An extreme difference in savings
by buying direct. I do not know if they have a minimum
order or if they make toroids.(??)

I found a 6" dia round copper sphere last week. It was smashed so I filled
it with water and put it in the freezer. When it froze the ice pushed the
smashed place out and now its round again. It works great on my small TC.
I have found that McMaster Carr sells these spheres. They are available in
copper, stainless steel and mild steel. The stainless steel is the most
expensive. The copper spheres are the cheapest. They come in sizes from 2"
dia. to 14" dia. Sizes increase by 1/2". There are several types of mounts.
I will list only the spheres that mount with a single screw on one side.
Spheres with no attachment at all are available they look like a round ball.
I will list only a few sizes, part numbers and prices. If anyone is
interested they can call 1-404-346-7000 to place an order. If anyone has
catalog #101 they are listed on page 1552. They are listed as Floats in the
index.
