Hi Roderick,
               If it is any help, I constructed a 17" coilform using
1/8" thick polyethylene sheet (welded seam with hot melt). I built a
ribbed structure from acrylic strips to support it. It did bow 
slightly with the winding pressure. I had to set up a large lathe with
a free standing wheel beyond the end to support the form while 
winding.
