Shouldn't need handmade.  You just need "real" rivets vs.. the now more
familiar "pop" rivets.  You should be able to find ( though I haven't seen
them recently), rivets intended for hammering flat.  I used these much in an
earlier day and I'm sure they are still around.

I'm wondering if there is a "sealant", perhaps a high temp silicone
(reactance with oil?), that can be used to "blend" the edges of the strips
and any imperfections in the rivet hammering process??
