Peter,
I just push a small needle into the wire at the tap point. Undoubtedly
losses are high using this method, but I still get good results. A
better way would be to make a sort of clip that could slide over the
wire after removing the insulation at that point. Offset the tap points
from turn to turn to avoid arc-over.
