1. Dry as thoroughly as you can (in oven if the oven is
large enough.
2. Coat INSIDE and out with varnish, polyurethane, shellac,
etc.  I personally have had pretty good luck with shellac,
although its use is denegrated by "the big boys".
3. Keep all HV leads on the outside of the tube.  No holes
or wires threaded through for convenience.

This has worked fairly well for me.  One tube which did break
down inside was "restored" scrubbing out the carbonized area
with a wire brush and filling the hold with shellac.  Not a
neat way to go, but that coil still works.
