Hi all,
While shutting down for the night, I got the hair brained idea
of connecting an antenna to my VOM and measuring the field strength of
my tesla coil. I laid the meter probes out as a dipole antennae and
set my Simpson 260 to 500 VAC. When I turned on the TC, I saw the
meter twitch. On down to the 10 volt scale I finally measured 2.1 to
2.4 Vac using just the meter leads laid out on a work bench about 5'
from my toroid. I placed my RF field strength meter on top of my
Simpson an got a reading of only 1.1 or so. The Simpson is much more
sensitive.
For those of you without a RF field strength meter, Use your VOM on
the AC scale for tuning.
