There is a DC Tesla coil described in the Tesla Coil Construction Guide. 
This coil produced 5 million volts with only 3 KW input at 25% efficiency.
The power magnification was over 500 at one pulse per second.
The advantage of a DC Tesla Coil is that you can produce long sparks with 
very little KW input.
