Yes, one of my coils currently works with a lower current rated
transformer of about the same voltage. I use a single tungsten gap,
no quenching with a 0.1uF capacitor. The system works well and no
quenching necessary. Throws sparks about 4 - 4 1/2 feet with 1600W
input.
