Just a quick note: Yes, I've done discharges using 15Kv, 60ma neon sign
transformers in atmospheric pressure argon. I have obtained 3ft discharges in
a 5" pyrex tube. These are not self-starting, however. One must 'pull' this arc
or use a small tesla coil to intitiate the discharge. Once the arc has started
though, it is very thin (1mm) and is kind of wiggly but has no branching.
Very neat effect-please try it!
