Used neon transformers really are cheap. I recently bought four 12kv 30 ma
transformers (the easiest to fine) for $10.00 each from a neon sign company.
Two of these in parallel, phased properly, will provide plenty of power -
and probably cost less in the long run than the construction projects that
you described.
