Re: Forum

The Geek Group started out as a mailing list some odd 5 years ago. When we went to a forums-based communication system about 3 years ago, we lost a very significant chunk of members, many of whom highly regarded and distinguished. I only ever heard trite, fatuous excuses....

Someone stated that the amount of traffic would increase due to the bloating added by HTML and forum systems. However, I argue the opposite. If I read 5% of the Tesla List messages, I'd be surprised: that's a lot of bandwidth wasted on subjects I'm uninterested it. And I have little doubt that the vast majority of the 1500 members on the list are very similar.

There are enough Telsa/HV forums - leave the Tesla List alone. :)

Cheers!

Hi Terry, All,

Sounds like there are five categories of participants on the list:

1. Those who say they prefer the current format
2. Those who say they would leave if the format changes.
3. Those who say they prefer the Forum format
4. Those who say they will leave if the format doesn't change.
5. The vast majority, who are not saying to which of the first four
categories they belong.

It looks like there will be at least some small amount of
attrition whichever decision Terry makes. Since the majority of
participants have not bailed out, one can assume that they are at
least tolerably satisfied with the status quo. i.e. they are not in
group 4. The question then becomes "what number of the majority are
really in group 2?"
