Hi Richard,
me too... was delighted to find these balls. I discovered them
(with spark gaps in mind) in some flea-markets about a year ago,
where occasionally I buy them for ~8 SFr(4.5$) the pair. They are
great for safety gaps, or even for a rough mesuring gap for HV
(for 5cm balls you can find tables of voltage vs. spacing). I
drill M3 screw threads into them for mounting. The chromium
plating deteriorates soon, if you apply "power arcs". ...Yes, I
think it's something brilliant ! ;^)
