An easy RF ground.
Questions about grounding the base of the secondary come up often, so I
thought I`d relate what I`m using for the moment.
The coil is a small 4" by 16" secondary type, driven by 2 MOT`s and a
simple gap made from 5/16" tungsten welding rod.
I simply attach the bottom of the secondary to a 3`by 3` piece of PCB
standing next to the cellar wall. I have tried as small as 1.5`by 1.5`
wire mesh also, the dimentions are not critical, and neither is the
proximity to the wall, IE: it does not have to be glued to it, just sort
of tucked loosely against the wall, or floor for that matter.
I got the idea, when reading about the UFER ground, which Jim talked
about some time ago, and it also reminds me about the counterpoise
approach, which at least R, Quick favoured.
The cellar is made from cast concrete, but I have also tried this on the
3rd. floor in a solid brick factory building, and it worked perfect
there as well.
So for these happy small coils, you don`t really have to dig up the
garden to get sparks at all.
