Ryan,
An excellent SG can be made using threaded brass rod, 1/4 - 20. Put a 1-inch  
solid brass
door pull (knob) with a convex surface on the end of the rod. A 1-inch copper 
pipe connector placed between the two door pulls makes a fine 2-gap 
adjustable SG.    -----) O (-----
