Possible solution:

Enclose the gap in a box (leave LOTS of room for cooling, at least a foot on 
each side) then force air though the box with a big muffin fan (8" would be 
great), then line the inside of the box with AcoustiFoam or one of the 
dozens of sound deadening foams out there. AcoustiWedge is good, and can be 
mounted with Velcro ( to make it removable) or Liquid Nails (permanant). 
It's easy to work with, but to cut it I HIGHLY reccomend a pair of electric 
knives (the ocillating ones like you use for a turkey), they work very well 
especially with large pieces. You couls probably do a whole box with 2 
pieces. They average about 2X2' though some come at 2x4' and that would be 
Plenty. :)
