Jeff,
Avoid the nickel plated contacts! The nickel is highly toxic as it
evaporates, and it will do so with tremendous efficiency. Plain brass is
fine. Silicon bronze (looks like copper and is made into bolts for the
electrical industry is also a good temporary choice) as is pure copper.
All other electrode materials in a Tesla gap besides tungsten are pretty
much classified as temporary, the higher the power the more temporary.
