I heard someone once say that they soldered on a hose fitting to the end of
a copper pipe and used it as a water drill to get the rod in.

Yep, used a sledge hammer. You must be sure there are no gas lines,
electrical,
etc. where you are pounding. It the ground is wet, it should provide a nice
rf
ground.
