Hi Alex,
I think you will like the extra turns, but I don't think it will cure your
flashover condition. It's more likely to be your pri/sec coupling. Also, I've
done the same thing to my coil (added turns/length/etc.). The splice should
hold up fine. BTW, when I splice, I drill 2 small holes into the secondary, run
the wire ends into the holes, solder on the inside, sand smooth, then add
several coats of polyurethane. After the poly has dried, I throw a bead of
silicon on it (it's on the inside so nothing is visible). It has held up great.
I actually have 3 of these connections on my secondary from various changes.
