Saturable Reactors
Original poster: "J. B. Weazle McCreath" <weazle@hurontel.on.ca>
Hello Coilers,
I've a couple of industrial electronics books here that give some info
on various hookups for saturable reactors. One, titled "Electronics in
Industry" by George M. Chute goes into quite a lot of detail pertaining
to how they can be connected in a variety of ways for various purposes.
In one application, the saturable reactor is used with a pair of diodes
in the A.C. circuit to make it self saturating. This allows the control
D.C. current to be very small, in the order of a few milliamperes, to
drive the core OUT of saturation. A battery could be used for the D.C.
source, thus isolating the control circuit completely.
If anyone wants more specific information, let me know and I can either
reply off list, or if interest warrants, via the list.
