capacitor

I recently purchased a capacitor, 30uf 600VPK 10kh, I
was told that this is the AC rating, and the DC rating
would be higher... Is this true?  What would the DC
rating be?  Also, I'm unclear on the theory behind an
AC capacitor, i was always told that capacitors "pass"
AC, not a direct connection, but they won't charge. 
Any help would be, well... helpfull.
