Looks like you started off a lot better than I did. A few things in your
post caught my attention. I have been using a franceformer for two years
with most of my HV projects. I have put the thing through everything you
could throw at it. It has been running with no load, used in untuned tesla
coil w/t no protection, and been in a tuned tesla coil still w/o protection.
This is just one persons experience I know but I would try another one for
sure. Second thing is that I have 4 9/30 NST's and possibly a fifth one
that has not been tested yet and needs an insulator replaced. If you are
interested e-mail me. I live in North Carolina so keep that in mind about
shipping.
Good luck and don't get bogged down in all the small stuff because it can
take some of the fun out of the hobby if you are obsesive about it.
