Tesla coils are used in the manufacture of television and computer display
tubes to "spot knock" or "age" the electron gun after it is sealed and
evacuated. One of the important observations that Tesla made while working
with his button vacuum bulbs was that hi frequency hi voltage current heats
and accelerates particles off conductive surfaces. We use this phenomena to
remove minute particles from the electron gun and accelerate them toward the
shadow mask where hopefully they remain. This process reduces stray
emmissions and increases cathode emmisions. and is a very important
manufacturing process making possible the high output color display tubes we
enjoy today, although not the sole technique.

What are tesla coils usefull for?  Besides creating awesome displays of
electricity.  Are their any practical applications they can be used for.
