I am in Thousand Oaks, very amateur! I prefer the instant gratification of small coils (NST powered), but I do have a 10" coil that has not been energized for many years.
I'm in Thousand Oaks as well. I'm in the middle of building 7 small coils.
Brian, do you have a RSG or ASRG avail? or a good motor for such? I am looking for a solution. I have a rotor and electrodes, just no motor.
Check the list archives - there were a lot of people modifying a regular 60 Hz induction motor to make it "synchronous" by grinding the rotor down.
The other approach is a DC motor with a speed control servo scheme of some sort. Depending on the size, you might be able to repurpose an off the shelf Variable Speed Drive by combining it with a speed sensor to make a control loop.

Hoping to find some folks local to Los Angeles with any referrals or resources available regarding Tesla Coils, or other high voltage electricity demonstrations. I'm aware of the coil at Griffith Observatory, but would love to connect w/ other local enthusiasts, schools, groups, etc ! Any help would be sincerely appreciated!!
