Thread-topic: Horizontal bipolar aspect ratio question
I've found several posts in the archives, but no answer to my question:
Is there a recommended aspect ratio for the entire length of the secondary? Reviewing other horizontal bipolar examples, they all seem to have one thing in common, which is a short aspect ratio. By that, I mean that if you were to break them down into two 1/4-wave coils, they would be fairly short, or shorter than the typical aspect ratio for those type of coils. Most 1/2-wave coils appear to have somewhere around 4:1 (total length), which seems to be pretty short, so thus the question. My approach thus far in designing my project (1/2 wave) is using JAVATC to design a 1/4-wave coil with all the Pri/Sec relationships, and then double the length for the secondary only (resulting in a secondary end-to-end aspect ratio of about 8:1 or more). Yet, I never see built coils with kind of aspect ratio. Can you guys clue me into why this is?
