I was constrained for space and had to go 2 layer.Bear in mind that if not all windings are used in the primary, then there is an "autotransformer" action which will increase the voltage at the end of the complete primary This can give a spark over an inch long to jump between layers so you need a good amount of insulation between layers, hence the sheet of acrylic used here.

If you have two identically wound 10 turn spirals and you connected the inner lead of one to the outer lead of the other, the two spirals would work as one effectively 20-turn spiral. But since I'm joining the two inner leads together, if you imagined yourself as an electron flowingthrough the coil from one outer lead to the other, you would be going CW in one coil and when you cross into the other, you would be going CCW. If youlook at the photo, with the two coils wound in opposite directions and joined in the center, you would be going in the same direction throughout the entire path.
