[TCML] Fw: Good and Cheap Ballast Options

How many VA is your potential transformer rated for. I have been using 2 500ft spools of #12 THHN to ballast my 6KVA PT pair for many years. (i run a 10KVA pig these days)For the $$ spent and effort required it was worth it at the time. If I remember correctly. 1 500ft spool ballasts 120V to 28A or something close to that.  I ran 2 in series for 240V operation. Of course I put in a tad extra effort, by mounting them to a fixture which also held line filters and some nice terminal strips. Made it easy to move around quickly. I will be working on winding a coil for my 10kva core for the new ballast this winter. Finances allowing of course.Cheers, -JaySent from my Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone------ Original message------From: Daniel KunkelDate: Sun, Nov 25, 2018 3:21 PMTo: Tesla list;Cc:Subject:[TCML] Good and Cheap Ballast OptionsHello All,I am looking to ballast my new potential transformer. I came across thisidea (http://hotstreamer.deanostoybox.com/mnovak/ballast.html) of using1/8" welding rods inside a 2" PVC wrapped with 500ft of stranded 10awgTHHN. Seems cheap and functional. You can add or remove rods to alterinductance and raise and lower the core as well. I wonder if there are anyother equally cheap/good or better ideas? Thanks,~DanKansas City area_______________________________________________Tesla mailing listTesla@tedward.pupman.comhttps://www.pupman.com/mailman/listinfo/tesla
