I followed the part numbers and compared them to The Geek Groups MMC build and noticed the parts I received are smaller than theirs. Please advise.
that's fairly odd - it's not like capacitor technology has changed. .. what part number did you order?
what's the diameter and length of what you have? The CDE 942 data sheet is here http://www.cde.com/resources/catalogs/942C.pdf If you look at the 942C20P1K-F (2kV 0.10 uF) it shows 24.5 mm in diameter (call it an inch) 45mm long (about an inch and three quarters) the 1600V versions are smaller diameter and shorterEssentially, the volume (of any capacitor) is generally propotional to the stored energy which is 1/2 CV^2.
So you look at a 1kV and 2kV 0.10 uF cap 1kV, 16mm diam, 34 mm long = 6800 cubic mm 2kV, 24.5mm diam, 45mm long = 21200 cubic mm. I'd expect it to go as a factor of 4, and it's a little under.. _______________________________________________ Tesla mailing list Tesla@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx https://www.pupman.com/mailman/listinfo/tesla
