I think he is wondering about the fact, that there is no capacitor, just a spark gap and primary coil. The explanation is very simple: Although there is no visible capacitor, there is always some picofarads of capacitance (wires, spark gap itself...) so it is a resonant circuit which is enough to light up the lamp.

Do you mean why does the lamp light? That's because there is enough RF to
excite the gas inside the lamp.  Do you mean why does the coil make RF?
That's because it's a resonant circuit.
