Re: [TCML] Remote coil

Glad you like it.

It was made for demo/touring use, with separate control unit, and a wheeled trunk containing the main transformer, MMC, sync rotary gap, and a tightly coupled driver immersed in a small oil filled drum (to limit corona). It's been all over the country for science demos, and has stood up to the travel pretty well. Top load/tertiary can either be flown (fiberglass rods go from the bottom of the coil to a wooded X with hooks), or the whole lot can be turned upside down and placed on a desk.

Using a magnifier setup makes this quite easy. I did this for the Royal Institute Christmas lectures, and flew a tertiary and topload about 15m from power unit, connected with just a length of enamel wire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5piP_qfDvBA

It could have gone at much higher power levels, but from some poorly placed broadcast quality cameras!

I want to run the coil upside down from the ceiling bout 15ft high but have power source on floor.

Currently my MMC is six feet away from nst's and the primary using neon sign cable.
I have not noticed any degradation in performance.
The static spark gap is six inches and I would suspect that the same could be done with that.
I don't use a terry filter.
The main problem would be I/R losses and induced voltages by running them parallel for extended lengths, like you would for spark plug wires.
