Re: [TCML] Natural gum rubber strip for VDG

That's a good tip! However, 1/16" is pretty thick so will probably require quite a bit of belt tension and driving power. Natural rubber doesn't last very long here in Smoggy SOCAL. I've found that Thera-Band 'exercise material' works very well and seems to last a long time. Ordinary 'rubber cement' for paper even works fine to join the ends. The thinner versions put almost no load on the bearings and I've used the thinnest - Tan - works very well and seems to last. Cheap enough too. Can be bought in medical supply stores or purchased online.

For those interested in VanDeGraaff generators, I finally found a source for cheap natural gum rubber strip for belts. It glues very well with rubber adhesive. I purchased 2- 1/16” x 2” x 36” strips
[$1.79 each] for a 36” belt and am getting excellent results with it.
