Re: [TCML] PSPICE model for SGTC?

Thanks, I found the data Jim referred to here

http://hotstreamer.deanostoybox.com/TeslaCoils/Misc/NSTStudy/NSTStudy.htm

I tried importing Gary's vgap.sch MicroSim file into OrCad Capture CIS Lite v16.6, and was able to do so, but again I am very new at PSPICE so I can't figure out quite how to access the schematic after loading it. I should be able to recreate it in the latest version from the schematic image.

I am learning PSPICE because I am taking a series of circuit theory classes. Here is the relevant info about installing a newer version and OS compatibility. MicroSim was bought by Orcad, and more recently Orcad was bought be Cadence software.

My professor gave me and the other students a DVD with the software on it. It looks like you can download version 17.2 (64 bit computers only) or 16.6 from Cadence/Orcad here. http://www.orcad.com/buy/try-orcad-for-free

Subject: Re: [TCML] PSPICE model for SGTC?

Terry Fritz created a very accurate PSpice model for a 15/60 NST. I worked
out a model to simulate a first-order static spark gap, at least as far as
breakdown voltage and a static on-resistance. I have a web page showing
the whole TC picture here: http://www.laushaus.com/tesla/gapsim.htm and
gapsim - Laushaus Home Page<http://www.laushaus.com/tesla/gapsim.htm>
www.laushaus.com
A late and important footnote - Recent discussions on the Pupman Tesla List now suggest that neon sign transformers exhibit a non-linear behavior when primary ...

there is a link to download my MIcroSim PSpice model of the complete coil.

I had an old version of MicroSim PSpice and I've not been able to get it to
work since upgrading (?) to Windows 10. If your free package works under
W10, please share a link to the installation package?

Hmm, just noticed that my model does not include a secondary coil.
Changing the primary coil to another transformer is straightforward enough
- we know the inductances and coupling factor, but modeling the streamer
load is a very big and complex deal. I remember Terry had a simple static
model of a streamer and it was thoroughly discussed in the archives under
the subject "streamer modeling" or something like that, probably in the
late 90's.
