Assuming that you are referring to series-connected multi-segment static gaps - The ability to quench quickly - cease spark gap conduction after the "bang" energy has transferred from the primary tank circuit to the secondary tank circuit - is better with multi-segment spark gaps. If the energy transfers back and forth pri/sec multiple times, there are losses in the spark gap that increase with each transfer. However, spark gap losses are also greater in multi-segment gaps, so it's an unresolved debate as to which type of gap - single or multi - results in better performance.
