Got my 0.1uf pulse pio caps today and fired up the coil. Impressed with the
output but also a little bit worried.
The primary voltage seems to rise from 8kv (calculated) to a very large
amount and is causing some breakdown problems. You can hear it in the video
below. Also it seems very erratic and pulses.
I think a feedback loop to adjust timing is necessary. But on the flukes
where things come together I get 30cm streamers which are very faint.
Also the best output is when I get grid arcing. I don't know if its reverse
voltage. It seems to be premature firing and the thyratron may be self
regulating the pulses. A toroid would be great but I don't have one.
One more thing I added a turn of insulated wire around a toroid to limit
discharge current to the tank. Half a turn and two turns diminished the
output whilst 1 turn increased it. I don't know why.
This thing is very loud and produces a heap of ozone.
