In one word, Franceformer. When I started out I was more concerned about votage than amperage but quickly found that better results were realized through amps. My first coil was powered by a 12/30. Fortunately I was able to swap it out for a 12/60 with minor changes and the performance literally doubled. For a medium sized simple spark gap coil I highly recommend you build around a non-GFI 12/60. For a smaller device at least a 9/60. I have dual 15/60s on the shelf for my next coil. As far as people who like to point out the fact that they are smarter than you, yeah, Ive run into a couple around here, but for the most part you will find people who can put things into laymans terms to get you going. Be safe and always treat your coil like it can kill you if mishandled, cuz it can.
