Hi Matt. One "problem" with using a typical diode tester to test HV diodes is they do not provide enough voltage. One possibility would be to build a small power supply, as Stefan suggested. However, I would suggest something like a variac or a line/mains isolation transformer. This would eliminate many of the HV dangers with using an OBIT transformer.
