That's interesting to know.  We should have investigated it more. 
Especially since one of our techs was working inside the tank of this big 
Marx, and we went to get him for lunch.  We never found him.  We finally 
figured that the green slime got him.  He was a good tech, too.

The green slime in those CuSO4 water resistors is a simple mixture of copper
hydroxide and copper basic carbonate.  Not very conducive to life.  It is in
fact a very similar mechanism which makes copper salts deadly to plant and
tree roots.

Many Cu compounds are greenish.  Unless DNA,  or whatever, tests indicate
biology:
   simplest indication is  chemistry....
