Tim,
It's called Tufnol (in the uk anyway) I have used it for three discs so far.
As for the disc itself, I think it's a bit too small. I would prefer either
a 3600 rpm motor (easier to convert anyway - 2 flats instaed of 4) or a
bigger rotating diameter, or both.
As it's built you have little to loose though.

Thanks for the material descriptions. I machined my disc from the phenolic,
based on your description.
