[TCML] 110V Kicking Coils to start off 2013

Happy New Year 2013!
I did a few fun and simple coils to start the new year. Both run from 110V directly without a high voltage transformer. They use back EMF from simple kicking coils made from those partial spools of wire too small to wind Tesla Coil secondaries with...
The first is wound on a 1.5" square core a foot long. 6 layers of 20 AWG PVC coated. The second uses a small spool of cotton covered wire and a .15 MFD cap. The second Pancake was homemade with 670 ft of 34 AWG slightly stagger wound into a 9" flat spiral.

Both coils yield 6-7" sparks and consume about an amp from the mains. The galleries are several pages long, component details are included. They are fairly simple and fun. Same circuit used in old Violet Ray machines - and run from AC/DC on a variety of voltages. The larger even works from 12V DC...with 1 1/2" sparks as the output.
No doubt performance will be even better on 110V DC, have yet to try.

Jeff
