I wouldn't worry about implosion..
We used to drop color TVs all the time for special effects jobs, and we had to rig them with explosives to actually get them to break. The most that happens is the neck cracks and the tube vents to air.

I would think that you don't need to coat it. there's already a conductive coating connected to that second anode terminal. What you need to do is find a suitable "ground", which might be the faceplate bolts.
