Thanks, and yes, it can be a bit of work getting the shunts out of a MOT, they are wedged in there pretty snug. I've had the best luck by supporting the core on a couple of 2x4s and using a square punch on the other end of a hammer to drive them out.
The trick, of course, is to have the right size punch; too little, like a screwdriver blade, and you just end up mushrooming the end, making it even harder to push out. With the right size punch, though, it can be done.
