Yes, that's a nice corona toroid. And I bet you had no problem, getting nice 
sparkrks from your coil, if not for other reason, despite having mounted 
this device not far up from your secondary..

If you want a really nice looking corona ring.
You can buy foam high core toroids from the basic craft stores, Michaels , 
AC moore, etc.
I put one on my secondary which happens to be the the same diameter as 
yours, Here take a look.
