Re: [TCML] Crock Croft Walton Voltage Multiplier
I was the discharger for the one Dr. Resonance (DC Cox) built for hair
raising.
It was about 7' tall with a 24 x 5" torid for the HV terminal. Supports for
the column were fiberglass. Capacitors had aluminium spheres for terminals.
The top stage was about 4.5 feet off the base, and the rest was output
resistor. Output was somewhere around 180 KV.
Getting near it to discharge it would raise the hair on your arms 6 feet
away, and the spark from the top of the multiplier section was a good 6-8"
and sounds like a gunshot. I had to discharge both sides of the resistor
before the person was allowed to get down from the platform. Make sure that
there is metal to metal contact made before letting the person down.
Here's one of Terry Blake's pics from that Teslathon.
