I'ven't ever seen one with the little black box in it but mine are similar save for that.  I would say that that is a GFI (little hard to determine).  Easy to bypass if it is though.  Have you any idea as to the year of manufacture or the manufacturer itself?

Hello List.

I'm curious if anybody knows if a: this transformer has a GFI (has a 'fault
indicator' light and a reset button, so I'm guessing yes) and b: if it
would be trivial in this case to disable or bypass it.

It's not a solid state "modern" transformer, and it doesn't look like the
GFI (if that's what it is) is integrated with the transformer proper, and
it looks from the photo as if it should be easily removed and wired
directly.

Anybody encounter anything similar?
