A long time ago I used a tufnol disc as the rotor on an ARSG running
at around 10k rpm.  It eventually caught fire and failed, throwing the
electrodes across the room, so I can't exactly recommend it - but I
think that was because I used steel electrodes which quickly heated,
and I generally didn't know what the heck I was doing.

>  thanks henry,that gives me more hope, i actually got round to testing the conductivity of the whale board yesterday with a 10/50 nst,it didnt conduct at all, not even when the nst hv leads were scratched alond the th rough cut edge with the fibres slightly exposed.whether or not it will stand up to a capacitor being discharged through it at rf is another matter, im still getting used to all the things that i thought were an insulator,are not at hv rf :).one more question though, i asked the suplier to send me some pieces of this same material,tufnol whale board 25mmx 25mmx 50mm cut from 25mm sheet to use as the arbour for connecting the electrode to the 10,000rpm motor,in the terry blake fasion. do you think this will stand up to high speed centrifugal forces imposed, my other option for the arbour material is hdpe block but my psu is mot based and i fear that the hdpe may melt and throw the electrode during a long run,i will have shaft collars fitted to the elecetrode but i dont think they will help if the arbour melts,unbalances,crashes,explodes the rsg assembly,ruins my day.thanks again,mark.
