Re: [TCML] Tesla Coil Toroid for 230 watts
I forgot to mention... max spark length was 13".
In another experiment I used a larger capacitor and
a 120 bps rotary sync gap. I got 25" sparks but
sparks were flashing over the OBIT insulators as a result
of resonant voltage rise. The cap value was too near
the resonant value. The OBIT failed after about 10 seconds
with this setup. I forget what toroid size I used in this
arrangement.
Cheers,
John

Subject: Re: [TCML] Tesla Coil Toroid for 230 watts
I used a small value tank cap of 0.0015uF, and a 4 section
multi-static gap for my 10kV, 23ma OBIT coil. The small
value cap resulted in a high break rate, and coalesced
tendril-like sparks. Using a 1.5" x 4.5" toroid produced
a single spark streamer. The secondary was 3" x 11.5"
wound with 28awg magnet wire.
Cheers,
John
